Kenobi Lightsaber
This well designed, no-glue-required kit makes a fine addition to any collection

For sci-fi movie buffs, Obi-Wan Kenobi's lightsaber is easily one of the most identifiable movie props ever custom built for the silver screen. It's original parts are known today to be a mish-mash of old mechanical components from the early 20th century, famously incorporating a British World War I grenade housing that would somehow use a camera part to merge with a jet engine part and a sink faucet knob. In the 3D printing world, nothing pays tribute more to that masterful prop work than Daniel Josvai's 'Kenobi Lightsaber' model. It's a fun way to explore your printer's capabilities and end up with a great looking conversation piece about model kits.
Kits like Josvai's are awesome to build since they can usually be made in a variety of filament colors to avoid the need for painting. The very gracious CaseStudyno8 set a kit standard years ago by giving the community a comprehensive collection of easy to print and assemble lightsabers. While his designs mostly required glue to secure the parts, other 3D modelers like Josvai developed a kit that needed no glue. That meant figuring out how to lock parts together firmly without breaking, all while keeping it print-friendly. He succeeded in creating a seemingly effortless replica model of the classic Jedi lightsaber from Star Wars: A New Hope.

Josvai's model was even awarded a rare 'Featured' star on Printables.com for being such a well designed piece. Simple elements like screw-together parts and twist-locking pieces are surprisingly reliable, and the enormous number of people printing it and sharing their positive compliments just reinforces its excellent printable design. The attention to replica-level detail is refreshing and appreciated in this piece, leaving one struggling to find a flaw anywhere in the model. For me, printing this prop in silk silver/gold and matte black PLA brought out the details exceptionally well. Many thanks to Daniel Josvai for sharing such an incredible model kit.
